Audience Feedback

Once the video and the print work was complete we showed our work to our media group. We then asked for feedback on the CD Cover, CD Inlay and Back Cover as well as our promotional poster. Here are just some of the comments we received.

Music Video Comments

'Costume related to the genre - looked like they were a real band'
This comment was most probably because of our detailed research into the typical costume and appearance of conventional successful indie bands.

'Really good variety of shots showing each member of the band'
We wanted to use lots of different shots so that we could keep the audiences attention by using engaging shots. Using close ups, wide angle and two shots meant a more effective video.

'One of the pan shots was disjointed'
We noticed this shot, however felt it was not so noticeable that the theme of the shot (band walking away down the canal) was lost.

CD Cover Feedback

'Perfect for the genre, with the setting and costume'
We were pleased with this comment as it was something we wanted to be clear to the audience almost immediately like most CD covers.

'Portraits on the CD inlay were great'
We decided to use these so that each band member had their own individual shot within the CD, this gave them an individual identity and made them easier to identify to.

'Not much text'
We decided not to include text within the inlay and kept the text that did appear to a minimum purely because we didn't want the CD cover to be something to read, we wanted the audience to concentrate on the band members and the music, which is what indie music often represents.

Poster Feedback

'The positioning of the band members shows their relationship is strong'
One of our main aims was to give the impression the band were a tight group of friends so that the youth (who are often in a tight set of friends) could relate to the band.

'Font doesn't work well'
We agreed with this comment so therefore looked at our poster and re-did the posters font

CD Cover Mock-ups

As well as creating a promotional poster and video we also had to create a CD cover, which had to include the front cover, inlay and the back cover of the CD.

We made several drafts of what we wanted our CD cover to look like and developed them to produce our final product.
DRAFT ONE

For our first draft we chose a picture of the band in a line to represent their unity as a band. We also changed the image to grey scale so that it looks more conventional of the indie genre. We thought that this image went well with our chosen genre so we decided to keep this for our final CD cover. We also liked the font used in the name of the song, however we were not so keen on the font used for the bands name '4 Kicks' due it not been bold enough, so chose not to use it.

DRAFT TWO

As before we decided to keep the background image as it worked so well. We felt the way the band were standing in a line represented their unity and friendship. However, in this mock up, we decided to change the band name font, in this draft we felt it stood out a lot more. We still felt as though the title needed to be bigger, to make a greater impact. We changed the title of the songs positioning but felt as though it took attention away from the band name

Final Product - Poster

For our promotional poster we used a shot of the all the band members chilling out, we did this to show the strong relationship they have. We used the same typography on the band name and song title as on the CD cover to show and theme and connection between our promotional items. We also added the Rough Trade logo onto the poster to show what institution the band our signed to and by doing this it makes the band stand out as being apart of the Indie genre.
